Obituary

Sophie (Derderian) Shamgochian, 78, died Saturday, November 5, 2005, in the St. Francis Home. Her husband, Atty. George K. Shamgochian, died in 1978. She is survived by a son and his wife, Robert and Andrea Shamgochian of Shrewsbury; 2 daughters, Barbara and her husband, Harvey Bazarian, of Quechee, VT and Marie Shamgochian of Worcester; a brother, Joseph Derderian of W. Boylston, 2 sisters, Mary Tateosian and Margaret Boosahda of Worcester; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Thomas, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Setrag and Margaret (Balemian) Derderian and worked for the City of Worcester Public Schools in the cafeteria department. She was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, where she was once active in the choir and the ladies' guild. She was also a member of the Daughters of Vartan (a former Derohie), Marine Corps Ladies Auxiliary, and was a board member of Girls Inc. of Worcester.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at Armenian Church of Our Saviour. Burial will be private. Calling Hours at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 5-7 p.m. with a Dahngark Service at 6:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St. or Girls Inc. of Worc., 125 Providence St.
