IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger R.
Borden
October 30, 2007
Professor Roger Richmond Borden, retired, passed away Monday evening, at his home in Worcester, MA while quietly reading the Bible and watching some television after enjoying a train trip to Portland Maine with the Briarwood Community earlier in the day. Prof. Borden taught mechanical engineering at WPI for more than 25 years (as well as managing the engine lab) and previously at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He was also a retired pastor of the United Methodist Church (serving parishes in Charlton, West Fitchburg and East Templeton, MA) and previously of the United Church of Christ (serving at the Orthodox Congregational Church in Petersham, MA). Not being a person to 'sit still' in his retirement he served as a docent for the Worcester Art Museum, a guide for The Boston Museum of Science, and as a volunteer in the Visitor Center at Olde Sturbridge Village. An avid train buff, and shutter-bug, he was always reading up on or engaged in his hobbies. He was also a member of the Masons through the lodge in Clinton, MA.
Mr. Borden was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Constance Elin (Linberg) Borden, this past April. He is survived by his son, the Rev. Andrew H. Borden and his wife Karen E. Borden (West Boylston, MA); daughter, Ms. Meredith Ann Borden (Hoboken, NJ); and granddaughters, Lynn Marie Borden (Gilbert, AZ), Elise Borden (Worcester, MA) and Krystal J. Borden (West Boylston, MA).
The funeral will be held @ 10:30 AM, Saturday November 3rd at Zion Lutheran Church, 41 Whitmarsh Ave., Worcester, MA. Private burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA. The family does not request flowers, instead memorial gifts may be made to the Youth Group Fund of Zion Lutheran Church. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is directing arrangements.
