Obituary

Robert W. Betts, 51, of Worcester, died on November 16, 2005, at Burncoat Plains Rest Home. He is survived by his sister, LeeAnn Benjaminsson Amend and her husband Kenneth Amend; a cousin, David Rydman of Dennis, MA; a nephew, Michael Stuart; two nieces, Mei Lee and Jennie Lin Amend; cousins Sheldon and Catherine Raynes of California and cousins Birgit and Kurt Erntsson of Sweden. Bob was born in Worcester, son of Helen (Benjaminsson Rydman) Betts and George Webb Betts.

Bob graduated from South High School, and completed three years at Worcester State College. While there, he was an avid chess player, winning trophies for his skill as a member of the chess club. Bob was a track team member for 3 years, and held a brown belt in Judo. He was a musician, starting lessons at the age of seven, and played both piano and clarinet. Bob worked hard to advocate for the rights of patients at Worcester State Hospital during the early 1980's.

Bob was a member of The First Baptist Church in Worcester. Burial will be officiated by Nordgren Memorial Chapel and arrangements are being made for a private graveside service at New Swedish (All Faiths) Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Burncoat Plains Rest Home, 572 Burncoat Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
