Obituary

Worcester—Margarete E. (Strauss) Downing, 85, passed to the Larger Life on January 11, 2005 after a long and valiant fight against illness. She was born in Kessel, Germany, the daughter of Max and Catrina Strauss. Her parents and brother predeceased her. Over 50 years ago, she emigrated to the United States and later became a citizen of the nation she so loved.

Margarete was a long-time employee of Astra Pharmaceutical, retiring a number of years ago. She was an active and beloved member of Greendale People's Church, serving as Financial Secretary of the church for 28 years. She was also active in Proto 4 and with the Church Fair.

The interment of Margaret's mortal remains will be at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 9:30 a.m. A service celebrating her life and resurrection will follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Greendale People's Church, with a simple reception following. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Memorial Fund of Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis St., P.O. Box 60074 Worcester, MA 01606-0074. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. is directing arrangements.
