Worcester - Mae Palmgren, 90, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Knollwood Nursing Center. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Andrew and Alinda (Johnson) Palmgren. She was a graduate of Commerce High School. Mae was a lifetime accountant and retired as Treasurer of Rutland Heights Hospital. As Treasurer, she was feted personally by then Governor Michael Dukakis for saving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts $1,000,000 in misdirected medical fees. After her retirement, she worked for Harvey & Tracey Assoc., Inc. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, the Retired State and County Municipal Employee Assoc., and Worcester County Mechanics Association.
She leaves her sister, Dorothy A. Palmgren, and brother, Alden C. Palmgren of Worcester as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger A. and Russell W. Palmgren, and two sisters, Grace Carney Hunt and Elizabeth Neville.
The Palmgren family wishes to thank the entire staff at Briarwood Assisted Living - in particular a thank you to Mae's nurse, Marla Prestone, for her loving and caring attentiveness to Mae and also to Jane Johnston, Activities Director, for keeping Mae on the ball.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury this Thursday, October 25, at 12 noon. Kindly make donations in her memory to Abby's House, Inc., 52 High St., Worcester, MA 01609. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street is directing arrangements.
