Obituary

Mabel C. (Hickey) Lajoie, 87, died Friday, December 21, 2007 at Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Roland, M. Lajoie died in 1965. She leaves 4 sons, Roland M. Lajoie, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of South Yarmouth, Donald Lajoie of Illinois, Robert Lajoie and his wife Patricia of California, and David Lajoie and his wife Beverly of Holden; a brother, Gerald Hickey of NC; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Mabel was born in Worcester, daughter of John J. and Mabel C. (Nystrom) Hickey. She graduated from South High School in 1938. She then attended the Worcester Business School and was a bookkeeper for St. Pierre Chain Manufacturing Corporation in Worcester in the early 1940's. After raising her family, she was employed as an underwriting assistant at State Mutual Life Assurance Company of America for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. George's Roman Catholic Church. Mabel enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe with her State Mutual friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
