Westborough, MA: Lois Z. (Ziegler) Toeppner, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. Her husband of 63 years Thomas G. Toeppner predeceased her in July. She leaves a son Robert T. Toeppner and his wife Domenica Hogan of New Jersey, a daughter Susan Hogan and her husband Dennis Hogan of Merrimack, MA, 3 grandchildren- Maya, Timothy, and Molly; 5 nephews- Scott, Dale, Jeff, Steve, and Dan; and many friends. She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Marie Ziegler.

Lois was born in Bay City, Michigan, daughter of the late William and Wanda (Wirsing) Ziegler. She was a graduate of Central Michigan University and the Boston Conservatory, where she received the Master of Music degree in Organ Performance.

She had performed in recitals at Worcester’s Mechanics Hall, Methuen Memorial Music Hall and Old South Church, Boston. Lois also performed as an accompanist and soloist with the Myron Heaton Chorale of Nevada in five European tours. She served the American Guild of Organists as New England Regional Councilor and as the National Secretary. She was Worcester AGO Sub-Dean 2018-2019 and for a period in 2020 was Dean. In addition, she was the Chairperson for the 1999 Regional AGO Convention (that yielded over $35,000 in profit for the Worcester Chapter), and has chaired many workshops and concert series.

Lois was the Organist at Sudbury United Methodist Church and then served for 29 years as Minister of Music, St. John Lutheran Church, Sudbury. Her duties included: organist, choir director, handbell choir director, and coordinator of instrumental musicians. Throughout her career, Lois was a busy organist for weddings and funerals, and she served many area churches as a substitute organist and choir director, including Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester where she and her husband, Tom, were members. Lois’ spunky nature, creative leadership and dynamo energies will be sorely missed in the music and church communities.

She found great joy in cooking and entertaining, creating warm and welcoming gatherings for family and friends. She especially enjoyed working alongside her husband in their vegetable garden, tending to the plants and sharing in the rewards of their harvest. Together, they also loved to travel, exploring new places and making cherished memories along the way.

Calling hours will be held for both Lois and her husband Tom (who passed away in July) on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church 73 Lancaster St. Worcester. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery.
