Leonard H. "Lennie" Carlson, 84, was buried in the Worcester County Memorial Park on July 30th. Leonard was born July 5th 1924 in Charlton, Massachusetts to Carl A. and Anna E. Carlson, both of whom emigrated from Finland. With family at his side, Lennie died peacefully at his home in Holden, on July 26th 2008. He is predeceased by his brothers Stanley and Edwin, as well as, brothers Arne and Rolf who died in childhood.
Leonard leaves his wife of 56 years, Marguerite A. "Peggy" (MacKenzie) of Holden; his son Christopher S., daughter-in-law Ann E. (Moseley), granddaughter Amanda M., grandsons C. Bradley and Nicholas A. (predeceased) of Upper Arlington, Ohio; his sons Kevin L. of Lowell and Gregory A. of Old Greenwich, Connecticut; his daughter Julieanne Carlson Marshall, son-in-law Wesley A. Marshall, and grandsons Wesley B. and Samuel B. of Worcester.
Lennie graduated from Oxford High School in 1942. He worked at Norton Company for 44 years. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and flew 18 missions with the 379th Bomb Group as a flight engineer. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded Air Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the EAME Theater Campaign Ribbon w/4 Battle Stars. He was active in Greendale Retired Men's Club, Norton Alumni, and Order of Runeberg. Leonard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
