Worcester - Julia E. Sullivan, 91, passed away at Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley. She leaves a sister, Mary Alger; two nieces, Dorothy Sykes and Elizabeth Shaw; a nephew, David Sullivan; 8 grandnieces and -nephews: Melissa Puopolo, Brian and Douglas Sykes, Meghan and Caitlin Shaw, and Ryan, Colleen, and Christine Sullivan; and 3 great-grandnephews and a great-grandniece, Alexander and Benjamin Puopolo, and Samantha Sykes. Two brothers, John and Bernard Sullivan, predeceased her.
Julia was born and raised in Worcester, a daughter of Jeremiah and Emily (McCarthy) Sullivan. Julia served in the Navy during WWII as a registered nurse in several Naval Hospitals. Following the war, Julia worked as an Emergency Room Nurse at City Hospital and at Rutland Heights Hospital. She then went on to teach Nursing at Quinsigamond Community College. Julia was a member of St. Bernard Parish and enjoyed traveling.
Services will be held Wednesday, September 14. A calling hour will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street at 8:45 a.m. prior to a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Bernard Parish, 228 Lincoln Street. Entombment in St. John's Mausoleum will follow.
