Obituary

Worcester, MA - Irene W. (Puro) Osterlund, 90, formerly of Huron Avenue, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Saint Francis Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Ero J. Osterlund (d. 2005) and her sister-in-law, Elma Osterlund (d. 2006).

Irene was born in Amesbury, MA, daughter of Finnish emigrants, Wilhelmina (Saikkonen) and David Puro. She was a clerk at Worcester City Hospital for 31 years, retiring in 1988. Irene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Esther Circle. Besides cousins in Finland, Irene will be greatly missed by her dear friend and caretaker, Melinda Montiverdi and Melinda's daughter, Liana, and son, Nicholas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017. A calling hour will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel from 9:30am - 10:30am followed by an 11:00am funeral service at Zion Lutheran Church, 41 Whitmarsh Avenue. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church.
