Hjordis "Helena" (Häggblom) Jansson, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Oakdale Rehab and Nursing Center. She leaves a son Åke and his wife Mary Ellen Jansson of Leicester; three daughters- Marlene and Ronald Patient of Leicester, Margaretha Jansson of Worcester, and Elaine and Kenneth Wilson of Princeton; 10 grandchildren- Melissa and her husband Andrew Catalfamo, Amanda and her husband Adam Hopkins, Katrina and her husband Matthew Annunziata, Timothy, Angelina and her partner Kimberly Walker, Ernest and his wife Dyan, Elizabeth, Gregory, Erika, and Kurtis; seven great grandchildren- Ariana, Cohan, Siena, Thomas, Julia, Sophia, and Anthony; a brother Nils Häggblom; a sister Anni Lundstrom; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Birger Jansson; a sister, and five brothers.
Hjordis was born in Åland, Finland, daughter of the late Einar and Hilda (Pinomaki) Häggblom. She came to the United States in 1955. She was a member of Burncoat Baptist Church, and VASA Nordic Lodge #611. She enjoyed crafts, baking, spending time with family and friends, and spending winters in Florida (26 in all).
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday February 16 at 11:00 a.m. in Nordgren Funeral Home 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hjordis' memory may be made to Burncoat Baptist Church 475 Burncoat St. Worcester, MA 01606.
