Obituary

Helen J. (Swanson) Phillips, 96, died Thursday, February 5, 2004, in UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. Her husband of 37 years, Russell T. Phillips, died in 1971. She leaves 2 daughters, Joan E. Schoonmaker of Warwick, RI, and Bette Osborn of Holden, 8 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Her twin sister, Ethel G. Swanberg, died last year.

She was born in Leominster, daughter of Justus E. and Emma J. (Johannson) Swanson. She was an alumna of Becker College Class of 1927. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of its choir, Dorcus Circle of Women's Society, and Delta Beta Gama. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Stella Chapter.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church Music Program, 114 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608. Nordgren Memorial Chapel is directing arrangements.
