Obituary

Worcester: Gertrude W. Gachau, 77, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. She leaves 2 sons- Emmeaul Wainaina Gachau and Dennis Gachau; 3 daughters- Jane Gachau, Teresia Gachau and Rosa Waweru; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James G. Wainaina and by 3 brothers.

Gertrude was born in Thika, Kenya, daughter of the late Karanja Ibai and Helen W. Karanja. She worked as a healthcare provider until 1968 and then became a businesswoman in Thika until 2000, when she came to the United States. She was a member of St. Andrew The Apostle Mission Church and enjoyed taking care of people and cooking.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 5:30-6:30 p.m in St. Andrew The Apostle Mission Church 5 Spaulding St. Worcester, MA 01603. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the church Burial will be at a later date in Kenya.
