Worcester—George "Dedo" Panagian, 85, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, November 15, 2008, after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Beverly (Simonian) Panagian; two sons, Peter E. and his wife Cynthia of Shrewsbury and Barton V. of New York; a daughter Betty Joyce of Worcester; one brother, Maurice "Punt" and two sisters, Agnes Costa and Elmon—all of Milford; 2 granddaughters, Michelle and Pamela; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Vartan and sisters Margaret, Virkin, and Irene.
George was born in Milford, son of Mary (Parnagian) and Serop Panagian. He graduated from Milford High School in the Class of 1942 and was a WWII Navy Veteran. He worked for Baystate Abrasives. George was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, Knights of Vartan, the former Armenian American Veterans Club Ohanesian-Panagian Post, and the Lt. Robert C. Frascotti VFW Post 1544 in Milford. George was honest, caring, and hardworking—a man of quiet dignity and strong faith. He was devoted to his family and many friends.
A special thanks to Dr. Wilner, Dr. Pease, and nurse Brenda, and the wonderful staff at Summit ElderCare – especially Margo and Julia - for their excellent care and also thanks to all the aides, doctors and nurses who have cared for George during the past seven years and special thanks to Pam Bombard, Susan Smith, nurses Bill and Paula, and dear friend Judy-mae.
Funeral services will be held at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19. Burial will be in Vernon Grove Cemetery, Milford. Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester MA 01605, Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609 or K.O.V.
