WORCESTER- Ethel G. (Swanson) Swanberg, 96, of 70 Briarwood Circle, died Saturday, June 14, in Knollwood Nursing Home.
Her husband of 33 years, Carl H. Swanberg, died in 1984. She leaves her twin sister, Helen J. Phillips of Worcester; nephews and nieces, including Bette Osborn of Holden; grandnieces and grandnephews. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Justus E. and Emma J. (Johannson) Swanson, and lived most of her life in Worcester. She graduated from Fitchburg Normal School and Fitchburg State Teachers College.
Mrs. Swanberg taught Grades 1 through 8 in Webster for 42 years and later worked five years at Immanuel Lutheran Nursery School in Holden. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member and director of the acolytes. She was also a member of Dorcus Circle of Women's Society, Massachusetts Teachers Association, Alumni of Fitchburg State College and Order of the Eastern Star Stella Chapter 77 Vasa Order.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, in Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Music Program, 114 Main St., Worcester, MA 01608. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. (www.NordgrenMemorialChapel.com), is directing arrangements.
