Obituary

Elwin Alfred Petrie, 87, of Holden, died Friday, October 31, 2008 in Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center.

He was the husband of the late Ruth C. (Johnson) Petrie, who died in 2003. He leaves two sons, James A. Petrie and his wife Debra of Leominster, John B. Petrie and his wife Viktoriya of Rutland; a daughter Sandra L. Hachey and her husband Michael of West Boylston. He also leaves three grandchildren, Christopher J. Petrie, Sarah E. Hachey and Anna E. Petrie, and nieces and nephews. A brother, Cecil F. Petrie and three sisters, Esther L. Clark Lohse, Erdine and Eleanor Petrie predeceased him.

Elwin was born in Lowell, Mass., son of the late Frederick C. and Mabel (Sanford) Petrie, He graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester. He attended Wentworth Institute, Boston and the Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, Florida

He was a World War II Navy veteran serving as a radioman 3rd Class in the 7th Fleet aboard the U.S.S. Boise.

He worked for many years at City Hall, Worcester as supervisor for the Payroll Department and as a counselor in the Personnel Department. He enjoyed woodworking and spending summers vacationing in Maine.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3rd at 11 o'clock in Grove Cemetery, Holden. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester is directing arrangements For directions and on-line condolences, please click on link below.
