Worcester: Elizabeth "Libby" (Gorham) Gray, 92, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016 in Homestead Hall surrounded by her loving family. She leaves a son Gregory G. Gray and his wife Jean of Oxford; a daughter Jennifer H. Schlegel and her husband Mark of Worcester; 8 grandchildren- Christopher, Matthew, Megan, and Andrew Gray, Jason, Joseph, and Joshua Schlegel, and Amanda and her husband Paul Henrickson. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Gordon K. Gray and a brother Lee Gorham who died shortly after birth.
Libby was born in Round Pond Maine, daughter of the late Ralph E. and Ethel May (Tole) Gorham. She graduated from Bristol High School Bristol, ME and Lincoln Academy 1942. She worked at the Bath Iron Works during WWII and the Maine State employment office in Bath, ME. Libby then traveled to Worcester where she met her future husband Gordon at a USO dance. Libby worked for Worcester Envelope when she first settled in Worcester and then spent her remaining working years as an administrative assistant at Davis Publications on Portland Street in Worcester. She was a member of Adams Square Congregational Church for many years where she sung in the choir and Greendale Peoples Church. Libby enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren, playing cards with Alton and Lillian their neighbors on Millbrook Street and vacationing on the coast of Maine. Libby's family lineage can be traced back to the Mayflower and early American history.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. in Nordgren Funeral Home 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Greendale Peoples Church 25 Francis Street Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Libby's memory may be made to Greendale People's Church - Ralph Marsden Memorial Fund.
