Obituary

Worcester, MA - Eleni (Vafiadis) Mello, 88, passed away at the Holy Trinity Nursing Center on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. She was the widow of Stefan Mello (d. 1997) to whom she was married for 47 years. Born in Turkey, Eleni was the daughter of Magdalini and Lazaros Vafiadis. She is survived by three daughters, Athena M. Zikopoulos, Anastasia Patnaude, and Marilyn M. Levesque; six grandchildren, Nicole Nuessle, Stephanie Zikopoulos, Joanna Boukalis, Stephanie Boukalis, Elena Zotos, and Kelsey Patnaude; and two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Sedona Nuessle.

She and her husband owned Auburn Town Pizza for many years. Eleni was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she took pride in baking the Feast Day Bread and being a member of the Philoptochos Society. She also enjoyed playing Bingo.

Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 from 5-7 pm. A Trisagion service will be held during calling hours. The funeral service will be held at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester MA 01609 or Holy Trinity Nursing Home, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester MA 01606.
