Obituary

Eleni (Bartzokis) Koumpis, 94, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, in the Hellenic Nursing Home, Canton. Her husband of 67 years, Lampros Koumpis, died in 2003. She leaves a son, Ernest Koumpis of Worcester; 2 daughters, Chrysoula Vlahos of Dedham and Agnes Tsourides of Shrewsbury; 2 brothers, Dino Bartzokis of Needham and Dr. Demo Bartzokis of Greece; 2 sisters, Sophia Katris and Niki Raptis—both of Florida; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Andrews Bartzokis, predeceased her.

She was born in Kastoria, Greece, daughter of Spyro and Vasiliki (Stamoulis) Bartzokis. Eleni was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and it's Ladies' Philoptochos Society. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 16, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street with a funeral service at 10 a.m. at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 15, from 5-7 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel. A Trisagion Service will be held during the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Family Center Fund of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Worcester MA 01609.
