Obituary

Elaine (Haviland) McDonald, 75, died Saturday, October 7, 2006, at home. Her husband, John F. McDonald, Jr., died in 2002. She leaves two sons, David Buchanan McDonald and his wife Marianne of Northfield, NJ and Dr. John Haviland McDonald and his wife Meghan of Worcester, MA; one daughter, Sue McDonald Budz and her husband Dr. Andrew Budz of Williamstown, MA; five grandchildren, Ian McDonald Jones of Williamstown, MA, Elizabeth McDonald of Northfield, NJ, Martha McDonald, Mabel McDonald, and Agnes McDonald, all of Worcester, MA; two step-grandchildren, Alexandra Budz and Andrew Budz, Jr., both of Williamstown, MA; and three cousins, Joseph Haviland, Patricia Haviland, and Sue Ann Cardinali.

Elaine was born on November 25, 1930 in Floral Park, NY, daughter of Everett and Edna (Hamburg) Haviland. She graduated from Forest Hills High in 1948 and attended Cedar Crest College and Berkley Business School. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Joseph Randi in Garden City, NY and a secretary at J. Walter Thompson Advertising in NYC. She traveled the world in support of her husband's military career for 27 years before retiring to their beloved permanent home in Paxton, MA. She enjoyed tennis, ice skating, birding, and was a Friend of St. Joseph's Abbey.

After cremation, a Mass of Resurrection will be held at 7:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, in St. Joseph's Abbey, 167 N. Spencer Road, Spencer, MA. Burial of ashes will follow in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mass. Audubon Society, 414 Massasoit Road, Worcester MA 01604.
