Obituary

Holden—Edith (Whitney) Grout, 79, passed away peacefully in her home, Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Her husband, Francis B. Grout, Jr., died in 1982. She leaves a daughter, Sandra J. Hall and her husband Gary of Holden; a son, Steven W. Grout of Worcester; two sisters, Sally Bousquet and her husband Robert of FL and Charlotte Lazaro of NV; a brother Charles Whitney, Jr., of MA; four grandchildren, Richard G. Hall of CA, Kevin F. Hall (USAF-Idaho), Jennifer Winship of MA, and Arthur Winship (USAF); a son-in-law, Arthur Winship; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Susan D. Winship and a sister, Gertrude Stollaroff.



Edith was born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury, daughter of Alice (Lassman) and Charles E. Whitney. She worked at State Mutual Life Insurance for 25 years. She loved traveling, reading, and gardening. Edith and her high school girlfriends formed "The Club Girls" and met for monthly meals throughout the past 50 years.
