Dorothy M. (Despin) Swedis, 65, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at home with family at her side.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband and high school sweetheart, Thomas W. Swedis who died in 1989. She leaves four children, Matthew A. Swedis and his wife, Lisa; Michael J. Swedis and his wife, Kimberly; Catherine A. Swedis; and Christina M. Swedis. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Hanson; her brother, Harold Despin; seven grandchildren, Anthony Slater, Amanda Flynn, Thomas and Devin Slater, and Michele, Jessica, and Elizabeth Swedis; a great-grandson, Andrew; a niece, Lena Deter as well as many other nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Donald H. and Edgar S. Despin and one sister, Isabelle Rivett, predeceased her.
Dorothy was born on February 24, 1947 in Worcester, daughter of Francis and Gertrude (Elder) Despin and was a graduate of Commerce High School. Prior to beginning a family Dorothy worked at St.Vincent Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering at many organizations through the years. Dorothy was a wonderful and blessed individual including wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She created a ripple effect of kindness, gentleness, compassion and love.
A private funeral service from 6-6:30 pm will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Monday, July 23. All are invited to calling hours from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 70 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
