Derek Ushkurnis, 42, passed away on September 22, 2026 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with his loving wife by his side.

 He leaves behind his wife Mary (Duquette) Ushkurnis, his parents James and Barbara (Colville) Ushkurnis of Paxton, father-in-law and mother-in-law Larry and Sheryl (McCrystal) Duquette of Hardwick. 

Derek was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and grew up in Paxton. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School and attended Lyndon State College. He later moved to the town of New Braintree.

Growing up, Derek enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod and in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. He loved meteorology, skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, the Boston Bruins, trucks, antique cars, and Oliver tractors. Derek was also a member of the New Braintree Fire Department for several years. Derek made his living farming; both vegetable farming and raising pigs and beef cattle. He was happy in the life he built around farming. Most of all, Derek cherished spending time with his wife, Mary. 

Services for Derek will take place on October 10th 2026 from 2-4 pm at Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St, Worcester, MA 01605. Nordgren Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in Derek’s memory may be made to NHSCOT.org (New Hampshire Highland Games).
