Obituary

Worcester: Basilia Fernandez, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 10, 2019 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. She leaves a granddaughter Yajaira Gonzalez; 5 great grandchildren Iraya Gonzalez, Yaviel Gonzalez, Jayla Gonzalez , Amayah Gonzalez, and Doriana Gonzalez; four sisters Ramona Casanova of Worcester, Milagros Mercado of Framingham, Francisca Fernandez, Maria Del Carmen Nieves of Puerto Rico, brother Juan Nieves of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Doris Vargas and brother Gregorio Fernandez.

Basilia was born in Catano, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Bonifacio Fernandez and Dominga Mojica. She attended High School and worked as a laborer at the Valkyrie Purse Company in Worcester for many years. She was a member of the church Centro de Adoracion Nueva Vida. She enjoyed spending time with family.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 9-11 a.m. in Nordgren Funeral Home 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
